Matthew Dent

My name is Matthew Dent. I’ve recently graduated from the University of Westminster and am currently freelancing as an illustrator; working and living in northwest London. I’ve always been interested in drawing ever since I was young but it wasn’t until about a year ago that I decided I wanted to pursue a career as a freelance illustrator.

My work combines a whole host of ideas and influences ranging from ideas on space to things I come across in day-to-day life. I love creating based on ideas I have out of work, I like to solve problems with my design am always looking at a way to make an object look nice, while also giving the viewer as much information as they need.

The pieces I have included are for Dazed and Confused magazine; they’re all created for book articles. I like to include the portrait of the person, as well as including things about them, or aspects of their personality. For example, Gomorra shows how he was silenced, but done in a way that is subtle and at the same time very obvious. These aspects of my drawing are very important as it relates to the text a lot better.

I am looking to put onto my first solo exhibition early next year. I have a selection of t-shirts coming out soon and im also going to have a selection of screen prints for sale. I am currently working on a few things, which I can’t really reveal as yet, but if you view my blog www.state28.com then you can keep up with what I’m doing and also buy some of my new work!
