Originally trained as a fashion designer, at Lancashire university, Ros Webb has since been part of a design partnership in Manchester; designing club wear and has taught art, fashion and textiles. She is now a full-time artist whose work is to be found in Cork City’s Gallery 44 in Ireland and now on the pages of Fallyrag.
In her own words:
“I believe all my cultural influences are to be found in my art, and in particular my figures. I like to convey the way fabric falls from the body, the effect of the body moving and how it effects the clothes we wear.
“The woman I paint are all imaginary and they represent different aspects of the female personality; how we would imagine ourselves if we had the opportunity to be who ever we wanted to be. I want to capture and convey that fleeting moment when we feel free and beautiful and that is why many of my paintings are of woman dancing, or moving.
“My work seems to appeal to woman more than men and although it does have a decorative aspect it does have an underlying message - 'we can be whoever we want to be through the power of imagination.'”
