Finneyerkes

The American South has always had a reputation for having a dark side. For every god fearing, white, all-American picket fence family, there’s another family of inbred cannibals living in an abandoned farm. Finneyerkes are those cannibals.

Hailing from the archetype southern heartland of Alabama the duo of Matt Finney (Spoken Word) and Randy Yerkes (instruments) have been producing a dark blend of electronica and ambience for a number of years. Sounding like the sound track to a particularly twisted, David Lynch movie, crossed with some angst-y, poetic spoken word.

They’ve touches of Godspeed you Black Emperor! and even Vangelis in their sound, pitching everything at a meditive, down beat pace, which sucks you in and pulls you down into their world. The band have a truly indie work ethic, self-releasing their first two albums, for free, through MySpace and consistently playing shows.

The pair maintain a level of mystery about them that a Black Metal band would be proud of, their webpage revealing almost nothing about them except their names and their location, and that’s how you feel the band want to keep it. If you find yourself constantly gripped by a wistful melancholy then this band is the sound track to your day-to-day life.
