The Glade became a festival in its own right in 2004 after originally being a stage at Glastonbury. After 5 years being located on Wasing Estate, Berkshire, the electronic dance-music festival, is being put on at a new venue site in 2009, near Winchester. It promises to be an extraordinary new setting for the much beloved festival and some great line-up announcements have done much to add to the buzz.
Early announcements for this year's Glade include Underworld headlining, Booka Shade, Squarepusher and Freeland. There'll also be support from Japanese Popstars, Dub Pistols, The Egg, Finlaye Quaye and Atomic Drop. With such a variety of dance tents, like Vapor and Avalon, alongside open-mic mayhem in the Rabbit Hole, there is a plethora of dance genres to keep you amused. There is also the promise of more open-air arenas this year, thanks to the new location.
Glade's fierce reputation for free-party atmospheres means that Glade is rightly considered one of the premier dance festivals in the UK. Avoiding the musical cliches of many larger events The Glade manages to spin a wonderful three day adventure together, without the hideous tarnish of corporate music hanging over the experience like so many other dance festivals.
