Last year Camp Bestival quite rightly won the "Best New Festival" at the UK Festival Awards. This year it returns to it's idyllic setting, along Dorset's dramatic Jurassic coastline, in Lulworth Castle. As well as a great music line-up, Camp Bestival also has a fantastic range of comedy, workshops and even a Book Worm stage with readings of prose and poetry. In the words of the legendary Rob da Bank:
"As always Camp Bestival is about the family - young or old, parents or not - the River Cottage doing their first café at a festival is gonna be tasty, we launch our own real ale festival within the festival, the English National Ballet and Silent Disco go head to head and I'm really pleased to welcome Lets Go Crazy, THE underage teen phenomenon for musically clued up kids. Last but not least our 100 free things for children has to be the bargain of the festival season. See you at the Castle overlooking the sea!"
Headlining the Saturday is the South-west's PJ Harvey playing her only gig in 2009. Her expansive repertoire, from gritty rock to lush ballads, promises to create a captivating show to enthral the festival-goers. Roots Manuva & Mercury Rev to Andy C and the amazing Cuban Brother's All-star show; there a tasty treat from a range of musical genres on offer at Camp Bestival this year.
High-art comes to the festival in the shape of the English National Ballet, who will be performing excerpts from their new show. There'll also be jousting from the Lulworth Knights for some medieval amusement. Comedy is being headed up by Mock the Week's Frankie Boyle (in his only festival appearance of this year) and Phil Jupitus; as well as some cutting edge satire from Marcus Brigstocke and Andre Vincent.
There are "100 free things for kids to do" at Camp Bestival. This includes, amongst other things, workshops with the National Ballet, glitter wrestling, 3-legged racing, kid's yoga, Punch & Judy, African drumming and even the chance to learn how to be a DJ! With such a diversity of activities everyone in the family is ably catered for.
Camp Bestival will be trying their utmost to live up to their new award status of Best New Festival, so expect this years event to build their quickly rising reputation. For more information, tickets and a complete line-up please have a look at their website:
